Let the confusion begin? The rules in designating Polestar's models

Anonim

From names to numbers to a mixture of the two, there are many ways to designate a model. However, the normal thing is that when it comes to numerical or alpha-numeric designations, they follow a certain logic that helps to structure and understand the positioning of each model in the brand's range. For example, Audi A1, A3, A4, etc. However, this does not happen or will happen with the designation of Polestar models.

As you know, the Scandinavian brand uses numbers to designate its models, which are assigned in the order in which they are launched: the first is the… Polestar 1, the second… the Polestar 2 and the third (planned to be a crossover) should be Polestar… 3.

However, nothing tells us about the model's positioning in the range. We know that the 1 is positioned above the 2, but the 3 (the predicted crossover) we don't know if it will be positioned above, below or at the level of the 2. Furthermore, putting the scenario of a replacement for Polestar 1, it would not return to call 1, but rather 5, 8 or 12, depending on the number of models released by the brand in the meantime.

Polestar Precept
What number will designate the model that results from the Precept prototype? The one that is right after the last one used by Polestar.

Recipe for confusion?

The revelation was made by Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, in statements to Autocar, who confirmed that the designation of Polestar models follows a numerical logic, the designation being chosen simply the next available number.

This means that, contrary to what is usual, in the future, a larger number (usually associated with larger models) can be used to designate the entry-level model. In other words, imagining a successor to Polestar 2, it will receive a higher number than the one attributed to the production version of the prototype Precept, which will arrive first.

It makes sense? Maybe for the brand, but for the final consumer it could cause some confusion. To give you an idea, it would be the equivalent of Peugeot's next entry-level model not having the 108 designation, but 708, superior to the 508 designation, which is currently the top of the range.

Polestar

Also according to the statements by Thomas Ingenlath, there is the idea that the Scandinavian brand may not adopt the concept of direct successors for its models, something that the freedom existing in their designation already allows us to foresee.

The only question that arises is to what extent the public will understand the organization of Polestar's range taking into account this type of designation and whether the Scandinavian brand will not change its mind at some point, but in this respect, only time in will bring answers.
