CUPRA Formentor. The plug-in hybrid that anticipates the future of CUPRA

Anonim

Remember last week we told you that CUPRA was going to unveil a prototype on your birthday? Well, the long awaited day has arrived and here it is, the CUPRA Formentor , a plug-in hybrid “SUV-Coupé”.

Scheduled for presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, the CUPRA concept car anticipates (in a way that is already very close to the production version) the first model 100% independent of the brand. Although some similarities can be found between the Formentor grille and the SEAT Tarraco grille, the style of this prototype is really original.

Thus, the CUPRA Formentor presents itself with a “SUV-coupé” profile marked by the reduced height of the bodywork (with emphasis on the descending roofline). Inside, the highlight goes to the digital cockpit, the 10″ infotainment screen and even the sports seats, without that futuristic air typical of the concepts, which indicates that this version will be very close to the production version.

CUPRA Formentor brings plug-in hybrid system

Animating the CUPRA Formentor is what CUPRA defines as “a high-performance plug-in hybrid engine”. Capable of developing a combined power of 245 hp (180 kW), this hybrid system transmits power to the wheels through a DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

Despite still being a prototype, the interior is already very close to that of a production model.

Thanks to the plug-in hybrid system, the Formentor is capable of traveling up to 50 km in 100% electric mode. The CUPRA Formentor also features the DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) adaptive suspension system that allows you to adjust the damping setting, with a self-locking differential and a progressive steering system.

Although there is still no certainty, it is possible that Formentor will reach the market in 2020, as part of CUPRA's plan to reach 30,000 units/year in three to five years (in 2018 it managed to sell 14,400 units).
