We couldn't start with anything other than the expected news in electric models for 2020. The stakes are high. The sales success of 100% electric (and plug-in hybrids) in 2020 and 2021 depends a lot on the “good finances” of an automobile manufacturer for the coming years.
This is because, if the average emission targets for each manufacturer are not met in the next two years, the fines to be paid are high, very high: 95 euros for each gram above the imposed limit, per car.
No wonder in 2020 we see the supply of electric models grow… exponentially. An authentic flood of electric models is foreseen, with practically all segments receiving new models.
So, between absolute novelties whose shapes we still don't know (or that we've only seen as prototypes), to models that have already been presented (and even tested by us), but whose arrival on the market only takes place next year, here are all the electric models that will arrive in 2020.
Compact: options abound
Following in the footsteps of what Renault did with the Zoe, PSA has decided to enter the “fight of electric utility vehicles and will offer not one, but two models, the Peugeot e-208 and its “cousin”, the Opel Corsa-e.
Renault has in Zoe an important ally in reducing the average emissions of its fleet.
Honda's bet is based on the small and retro “e”, and MINI is getting ready to debut in this “war” with the Cooper SE. Among city dwellers, in addition to the long-awaited Fiat 500 electric, 2020 brings with it the three cousins of the Volkswagen Group: SEAT Mii electric, Skoda Citigo-e iV and the Volkswagen e-Up magazine. Finally, we have the renewed smart EQ fortwo and forfour.

Moving up to the C-segment, the MEB platform will serve as the basis for two new electric models: the already revealed Volkswagen ID.3 and its Spanish cousin, the SEAT el-Born, which we still only know as a prototype.
The success of SUVs is also made with electricity
They took the car market by "assault" and in 2020 many of them will "surrender" to electrification. In addition to the long-awaited duel between the Ford Mustang Mach E and the Tesla Model Y — perhaps more interesting to follow in the North American market —, if there's one thing that the next year will bring us, it's electric SUVs of all shapes and sizes.
Among the B-SUV and C-SUV, expect to meet the Peugeot e-2008, its “cousin” DS 3 Crossback E-TENSE, the Mazda MX-30, the Kia e-Soul, the Lexus UX 300e or the Volvo XC40 Recharge. These will also be joined by the “cousins” Skoda Vision iV Concept and Volkswagen ID.4; and, finally, the Mercedes-Benz EQA.

Now on another level of dimensions (and price), let's get to know the Cross Turismo version of the Porsche Taycan, anticipated by Mission E Cross Turismo; the Audi e-Tron Sportback, which brought with it greater autonomy, an improvement that we will also see in the well-known e-Tron; still at Audi, we will have the Q4 e-Tron; the BMW iX3 and, of course, the aforementioned Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach E.

Despite being often doomed to “forgetfulness”, sedans or three-pack saloons not only continue to resist the SUV fleet on the market, but will also be electrified, with some of them scheduled to arrive in 2020.

Among the mid-sized models, 2020 will bring us the Polestar 2, which even “winks the eye” to the world of crossovers, and a size higher, we have the second and much more flashy generation of the Toyota Mirai, which despite being electric , is the only one that uses fuel cell technology, or hydrogen fuel cell, instead of common batteries.

Finally, and as if to prove that the "flood" of electric models will be transversal to practically all segments, also among minivans, or rather, the "new" minivans, derived from commercial vehicles, will have 100% electric versions .
Thus, in addition to the quartet resulting from the partnership between Toyota and PSA, from which the electric versions of Citroën Spacetourer, Opel Zafira Life, Peugeot Traveler and Toyota Proace will emerge, next year the Mercedes-Benz EQV will also arrive on the market .
