But if those are the upsides, there's also a big downside. The production lines of electric vehicles are generally dedicated, and as there are still no significant sales volumes, the sale of electric vehicles usually translates into losses or very low profit margins for the brands.

In the case of Mercedes-Benz EQC this does not happen

There's a good reason the EQC doesn't have a front luggage compartment. Daimler intends to produce the new Mercedes-Benz EQC on the C-Class, GLC and GLC Coupé production lines at the factory in Bremen, Germany. And it wants to produce it by maximizing existing resources as much as possible, that is, using the machines that already exist on the production line.

To this end, Mercedes-Benz developed and designed the EQC in order to integrate it into the production line, complying with the standards in force. The front module and the rear module arrive at the factory already assembled with the battery pack, being only necessary to match the chassis with this structure.

With this solution, Mercedes-Benz solved one of the biggest dilemmas that most brands face: production costs. The front luggage compartment has been sacrificed but the benefits are worth it. Whether electric, hybrid or combustion, all models use the same production line.
