However, the same responsible also states that, although with a status and positioning similar to the versions with combustion engine, the S-Class electric will not bear the same name. But it should bear, it seems, an abbreviation similar to the rest of the EQ electric family — for example, EQ S.
Mercedes-Benz EQ S already has a concept
Despite the name change, the EQ S will still be "a luxury, electric and top-of-the-range car", with Kelz adding that, as a result of the adoption of an electric propulsion system, the car will also have a longer wheelbase and shorter front and rear spans compared to the S-Class.
The same person in charge recognizes that a concept for this new model has already been created, using as a basis the new modular platform called MEA (dedicated only to electric vehicles), all pointing to the production version to see the light of day, more later, within four years.

Hybrid CLS also on the table
In this interview, Michael Kelz also confirmed that the new CLS, which is based on the MRA platform, and which is not prepared to house electric propulsion systems, could, in the future, still have a plug-in hybrid version. in. This, “as long as we see that there is a demand for it”, he says.
