“Top Gun” without F14 Tomcat, but with Porsche 911 GT3? Well, it seems to be the premise of this promotional video made by Channel 4 in anticipation of the Great Britain GP, which took place last weekend.
And amazingly, actor Tom Cruise, the protagonist of the original 1986 film that repeats his role in the sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” (premieres on November 19, after several delays due to the pandemic), didn't even miss.
From the skies to the asphalt of Silverstone, this “Top Gun” on wheels also features David Coulthard, ex-Formula 1 driver, Mark Webber, also ex-F1 and WEC driver, and channel presenter Steve Jones 4.
Undoubtedly an appeal to the nostalgic in us, not missing some of the themes of the original soundtrack, like “Danger Zone” or “You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin”, and sprinkled with several lines from the original movie like “I feel the need… the need for speed”.
Mix it all up with a showdown involving three Porsche 911 GT3s — in combat, not in a race — one with Tom Cruise at the controls, and we have action to give and sell, interspersed with small moments from the movie “Top Gun: Maverick ”. Pure entertainment!
