Imagine a Skoda Octavia with a mid-range rear engine

When thinking about mid-engined sports cars, the Skoda is never “to the noise”, but if it depends on the wishes of the Czech designer Rostislav Prokop, that could change soon.

Prokop created a sporty, mid-engined variant of the familiar Skoda Octavia, but as a starting point for its creation, curiously, it did not use any Volkswagen Group model.

Audi R8 or Lamborghini Huracán, or even a Porsche 718 Cayman are some of the rear mid-engine models existing in the German group, but this designer preferred to start with the current generation Honda NSX.

The Japanese hybrid sports car was the one that appealed to the senses of this designer, who kept the traditional rounded front — with the darkened radiator grille — of the Skodas, as well as the luminous signature of the Czech models.

And if that's true for the front, it's even more visible at the rear, even though the familiar “C”-shaped tail lights are no longer present on the latest version of the Octavia.

At the rear, you can see a rear wing that immediately reminds us of some versions of the Audi R8 and the two trapezoidal-shaped tailpipes with a chrome finish.

No imagination exercise of this kind is complete without talking about engines. And although Prokop has not addressed the issue, if we want to stay as a family, keeping this model in the Octavia range, we are forced to resort to the 2.0 TSI four-cylinder with 245 hp and 370 Nm of maximum torque that equips the Octavia RS and the new Kodiaq RS.

We would suggest using the 320hp variant of the same EA888 that the latest Volkswagen Rs use, more in line with the sporty look of this creation.

As would be expected in a creation that only exists on a theoretical level, doubts are greater than certainties. But one thing we can say, this more radical version of the Octavia could even be a nice tribute to the Skoda 130 RS (the Porsche of the East), the rear engine Skoda that in 1977 won the Monte Carlo Rally in the category up to 1300 cm3.
