Retouched on the outside (new front, but without straying too far from the Tiguan we already knew) and on the inside (new steering wheel and infotainment with a screen up to 9.2″), the main new features of the renewed Volkswagen Tiguan they are in the technological contents and in the new additions to the range.
In terms of technology, the new infotainment system (MIB3) now allows voice commands, we have wireless Apple CarPlay and there are two digital instrument panels (8″ and 10.25″). Another highlight was the replacement of the physical controls of the climate control system with touch-sensitive controls from the Life level onwards.
Still in the technological field, the highlight was the introduction of Travel Assist, which combines the action of driving assistance systems, and allows semi-autonomous driving (level 2) up to speeds of 210 km/h.

The range of the best-selling SUV in Europe and the best-selling Volkswagen on the planet was also restructured, now comprising three levels: Tiguan (input), life and R-Line . As standard, all Volkswagen Tiguans come with LED headlamps, 17” wheels (Tiguan and Life), multifunction leather steering wheel, infotainment with a (minimum) 6.5″ screen and the We Connect and We Connect Plus services. The Life version adds Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Air Care Climatronic. The R-Line adds unique bumpers and 19-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and cornering lights, the Digital Cockpit Pro (10-inch screen), ambient lighting (30 colors), Discover Media infotainment.
Tiguan R and Tiguan eHybrid
The highlights, however, in the rejuvenation of the Volkswagen Tiguan are the unprecedented R and eHybrid, the sportiest of the Tiguan and the “greenest”, respectively.
THE Volkswagen Tiguan R it presents itself, not only with more showy clothes, but also with 320 hp and 420 Nm extracted from the 2.0 l block of four cylinders in a turbocharged line (EA888 evo4). The transmission is four-wheel (4Motion) via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
In relation to the Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid — which we've already had the opportunity to drive — this is the first plug-in hybrid to be part of the range. Despite being the first hybrid Tiguan, its kinematic chain is known, and we can also find it in Passat, Golf and Arteon. This combines the 1.4 TSI engine with an electric motor, resulting in 245 hp of maximum combined power and an electric range of 50 km (WLTP).

In addition to the specific driving characteristics of the R and eHybrid versions, the remaining Tiguans can come equipped with a 2.0 TDI (Diesel) and a 1.5 TSI (petrol), with various power levels.
Thus, the 2.0 TDI is divided into three versions: 122 hp, 150 hp and 200 hp. As we have already seen in other recent Volkswagen launches, such as the Golf 8, the 2.0 TDI is now equipped with two selective reduction (SCR) catalysts with AdBlue injection. A double dose that reduces harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx).
The 1.5 TSI is divided into two versions, 130 hp and 150 hp, and in both we have access to active cylinder management technology, that is, in certain driving contexts it allows you to “turn off” two of the four cylinders, saving fuel.
How much does it cost
The renewed Volkswagen Tiguan, at this launch stage, has prices starting at 33 069 euros (1.5 TSI 130 Life) for the petrol variants, which culminates in €41 304 of the 1.5 TSI 150 DSG R-Line. Us Diesel prices start at €36 466 for the 2.0 TDI 122 Tiguan and end up at 60 358 euros for the 2.0 TDI 200 DSG 4Motion R-Line.
The prices for the Tiguan R and Tiguan eHybrid, which come closer to the end of the year, have not yet been announced, with the hybrid version estimated at 41,500 euros.
