The "super 73" from Mercedes-AMG are back. The first details

Anonim

Times are changing… Once synonymous with huge atmospheric gasoline engines (do you still remember the Mercedes-Benz SL 73 AMG?), the abbreviation “73” is about to return to the rear of Mercedes-AMG models.

Contrary to what happened in the past, they will not have a “diet” exclusively made up of octanes and will also consume electrons. For this reason, after that number in the designation of the models, the letter “E” will be present.

The bases for the return of this designation to the Mercedes-AMG range were quietly launched in 2018, the year in which the German brand registered the acronym to prevent other brands from using it.

Mercedes-AMG GT 73e
The GT 73e has already been anticipated but still with camouflage.

What do we already know?

For now, of all the electrified Mercedes-AMGs, the one closest to production is the GT 73 (or is it the Mercedes-AMG GT 73e?) to whose “spy photos” we have already had access.

Equipped with the well-known Mercedes-AMG 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 block, now associated with an electric motor (rumored to be the one used by the EQC and EQV), it should offer a combined power greater than 800 hp.

Speaking of this block, the most likely is that it will be shared by all the “Mercedes-AMG 73e” and thanks to its combination with the electric motor these will be the most powerful models ever from Mercedes-AMG (except for the hypersport One, of course).

For now, the most likely is that the first models to receive this designation are the GT73e, S73e and SL73e. However, the designations “G73” and “GLS 73” were also registered three years ago, leaving the possibility of the two SUVs electrifying themselves in the air.
