Committed to reducing its carbon footprint by 40% between 2018 and 2025, and to becoming a climate-neutral company in 2040, Volvo today unveiled a new environmental plan, revealed the product line recharge and will also unveil its first electric model: the XC40 Recharge.
But let's go by parts. On the environmental front, the Swedish brand has set goals in various operational areas. These range from a 25% reduction in emissions related to the global supply chain and generated by production and logistics operations, to a 25% use of recycled plastic in its models, all by 2025.
The Recharge product line, of which the new XC40 Recharge will be the first model, emerges with the objective of boosting sales of electrified Volvo models, which is the name by which each Volvo model with 100% electric or plug-in hybrid engine in will be known.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge
Scheduled for presentation today, the XC40 Recharge is the first 100% electric model in Volvo's history. Developed based on the CMA platform, the XC40 Recharge should be quite similar to its “brothers” with a combustion engine, at least judging by the teasers we've already had access to.

Although information about the new XC40 Recharge is still scarce, it is already known that it will feature an infotainment system developed in partnership with Google and based on Android.
In terms of safety, the XC40 Recharge has a redesigned and reinforced front structure, an aluminum safety cage to protect the battery and also the new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) platform equipped with radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.
