Volkswagen is more bet than ever in entering the crossover segment with full force. And for that reason, it presented two distinct models at the Frankfurt Motor Show. One thinking about the present and the other thinking about the future of the segment.

Let's start with the model that represents the «present». The Volkswagen T-Roc, a model that is produced at Autoeuropa and is based on the Volkswagen Golf (MQB) platform, received the R-Line version in Frankfurt, with more sporting details.

The I.D. Crozz – which according to Volkswagen represents the “future” of the segment – received a design update and anticipates part of the electric future of the brand.

The R-Line variant of the T-Roc bets on new bumpers and the addition of a rear diffuser, in addition to other details depicting the R-Line level. Inside, the highlight is the black-lined roof, stainless steel pedals and leather-lined sports steering wheel. As for the engines there is nothing new, keeping the 1.0 TSI, 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI engines, in addition to the 1.6 and 2.0 TDI options, which we already know.

the future is electric

Volkswagen announced in Frankfurt a global investment of 50 billion euros in the electrification of its models. The 100% electric I.D. Crozz II is one of the most visible faces of this investment.

In practice, the I.D. Crozz II is a reworking of the original prototype. VW added new headlamps with a cleaner design, by no longer relying on the LED lineup (which went to the bumper, as in the T-Roc). The new two-tone paintwork also works better, achieving a good contrast with the rest of the bodywork.

Volkswagen presented the I.D. Crozz II in Frankfurt with two electric motors – one on each axle – with a total of 306 hp. This configuration allows the model to have all-wheel drive. The autonomy is estimated at 500 km.

Volkswagen claims that the production version of the I.D. Crozz II could have a dynamic as refined as the Golf GTI, thanks to shock absorbers with electronic damping and multi-arm suspension on two axles.

launch map

From this Volkswagen electric offensive, the first model will be a hatchback, slated for 2020. The production version of the I.D. Buzz, the successor of «Pão de Forma», should only arrive in 2022. The third model will be precisely this one, the Crozz II.
