The McLaren 720S went to the Nürburgring and… didn't break any records

that the McLaren 720S it's a fast car no one doubts. Just look at his record in several drag races to see that, at least in a straight line, there is no lack of performance. But how does McLaren do on a circuit like the Nürburgring?

To answer that question, the German Sport Auto magazine took the McLaren 720S and took it to “green hell”. And if it's true that Woking's model didn't come back from Germany with any record, it's also true that the 7min 08.34s achieved is no shame — it's currently the sixth-fastest production model on the circuit.

A time that we can consider excellent, especially when we verified that the 720S was equipped with the Pirelli P Zero Corsa, with a more stradistant vocation than the semi-slicks used by some of the other models tested.

power is not lacking

To liven up the McLaren 720S we find a 4.0 L V8 that produces 720 hp and 770 Nm of torque. With numbers like these, it's no wonder that the British model manages to reach 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9s and that it reaches a top speed of 341 km/h.

Although the time achieved can already be considered excellent on all levels, one gets the feeling that the McLaren 720S has even more to give. Perhaps with another set of tires, I could even have achieved a better time — or so let's wait for the LT version…

In any case, the tests carried out by Sport Auto are usually a more accurate barometer of the performance potential of a car on the Nürburgring: no drivers from the brands and strictly standard cars (no suspicions of having been tampered with in any way).

No wonder the times achieved are generally below those advertised by the brands. Look at the example of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS: 6min58.28s by Sport Auto against the 6min 47.25s achieved by Porsche.
