Cold Start. This helmet "reads" motorcyclists' minds.

As you are well aware, motorcyclists are one of the most vulnerable road users. The fact is that while motorists have a whole “shell” (a.k. the bodywork) to protect them, whoever rides a motorcycle is not so lucky. For this reason, it is very important to improve the ways of communication between those who ride a motorbike and those who travel by car.

To do this, American designer Joe Doucet set to work and created the Sotera Advanced Helmet, a helmet with an LED back panel that is normally white. However, when it “feels” that it is going to stop (through the action of accelerometers) it lights up in red, warning those who are driving behind.

As for the LED panel, it is powered by a small battery that can be charged via a USB port. According to Doucet, this helmet is also innovative because, in addition to minimizing the damage caused by an accident, it helps to prevent it.

The most curious thing about Joe Doucet's creation is the fact that the designer refused to patent it, since saying that doing so would be the same as “patenting a seat belt and having it available only for one brand” .
