Cold Start. Golf R against Boxster and Mégane RS Trophy. Which is the fastest?

Anonim

It's one of the most often discussed questions in the automotive world: which is faster, a front, rear or all-wheel drive car? To resolve this “discussion” once and for all, the Carwow team put their hands to work and decided to have a drag race to dispel all doubts.

In a race that we can call the “duel of tractions”, the onus of representing front-wheel drive fell to the Renault Mégane RS Trophy with its 1.8 l 300 hp four-cylinder turbo and manual gearbox. The representative with rear-wheel drive was the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS, which appeared in the race with a 2.5 l flat four with 366 hp, automatic transmission and launch control.

The “honor” of representing the four-wheel-drive models fell to the Volkswagen Golf R, which uses a 2.0 l four-cylinder turbo with the same 300 hp as the Mégane RS Trophy but is equipped with an automatic gearbox and launch control.

In view of the automatic transmissions and launch control that the German proposals rely on (and the greater power of the Porsche), the Mégane RS Trophy responds with the lowest weight of the trio (only 1494 kg). But is it enough? We leave you the video for you to find out.
