Ford GT "dresses up" to honor the original prototypes

Launched in 2015, the current generation of Ford GT enters 2022 in its last year of production and to say goodbye in a big way “dressed up”, winning its sixth, and last, Heritage Edition.

After several Heritage Editions, one of them to honor Ken Miles' victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966, with a decoration that imitated the GT used in that race, the one we bring you today was to seek inspiration from the “parents” of all Ford GT, the prototypes of the American super sports car produced in 1964.

In total, of the five prototypes produced, only one kept the original paint job, the GT/105, and that's precisely what this GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition replicates.

The GT/101 and GT/102 were destroyed in crash-tests to race in Le Mans and Monza. The GT/103 and GT/104 were repainted after getting, respectively, the first and third places in Daytona and are in the Shelby Museum.

A retro look

Inspired by the GT/105, the Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition is painted in “Wimbledon White” with a black hood and a stripe that extends from the roof to the rear. The splitter, the side skirts and the diffuser are in carbon fiber, a material that was also used in the 20” wheels painted in the “Antimatter Blue” color.

The Brembo brake calipers were painted gray with black accents and inside we have carbon fiber seats covered in Alcantara in the “Lightspeed Blue” color. The instrument panel was lined with “Ebony” leather.

Finally, in the mechanical chapter, Ford did not release any news. Thus, the Ford GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition continues to use a V6 EcoBoost with 3.5 l, 655 hp, 750 Nm that appears coupled to an automatic transmission (double clutch) with seven ratios and allows it to reach 347 km/h of maximum speed and reach 100 km/h in less than 3s.
