Brenner. Is this the name of Alfa Romeo's new mini-SUV?

Anonim

Currently dedicated to the production of the Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon, the FCA factory in Tychy, Poland, will be upgraded. The goal? To house the production of electric and hybrid models for Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo. Now rumors indicate that the model planned for Alfa Romeo already has a name: Brenner.

Still shrouded in uncertainty (the name is not yet official), according to sources quoted by Automotive News Europe, this new Alfa Romeo will assume itself as a small SUV, positioning itself below the future Alfa Romeo Tonale, confirming a rumor that had already appeared a few months ago.

Accompanying what is known, at the moment, as Alfa Romeo Brennero should be two more small SUV/Crossovers: one from the Jeep that will be positioned below the Renegade (probably the baby-Jeep that was already talked about) and one from Fiat, which will have the mission of taking the place vacated by Punto in 2018 and should receive a lot of influence from the Centoventi concept.

Apparently, Tonale will have a smaller “brother”.

According to Automotive News Europe, the production of these three models should start in the second half of 2022 and the Tychy factory upgrade corresponds to an investment of 204 million dollars (about 166 million euros).

Platform? the CMP of course

Alfa Romeo's new mini-SUV will make use of the Groupe PSA's CMP platform, thus being practically guaranteed to have a 100% electric variant. If you recall, a few months ago the FCA stopped the development of five B-segment models to allow them to early adopt the Groupe PSA platform, even before the merger agreement between the two groups was finalized.

As for everything else, information is still sparse. The model designation needs confirmation and the powertrains remain an open question. However, bearing in mind that Alfa Romeo's new SUV will share the platform with models such as the Peugeot 2008 or the Opel Mokka, it would not be surprising if it “inherited” from these engines, including the electric (136 hp and 50 battery kWh)
