Skoda Octavia RS iV on its way to Geneva as a plug-in hybrid

Set for its debut at this year's Geneva Motor Show, the Skoda Octavia RS iV represents the biggest revolution in the sportier variant of the Czech family member since the launch of its first generation 20 years ago.

As you may have already noticed, after the already famous acronym “RS” came the “iV”. Now, within Skoda this acronym corresponds to the electrified sub-brand of Skoda and denounces that the new Octavia RS iV is now also moved using… electrons!

That's right, the Skoda Octavia RS iV “surrendered” to electrification and now has a plug-in hybrid system. Although data are still scarce, Skoda revealed that the Octavia RS iV will have a total power of 245 hp and, as expected, with substantially reduced consumption and emissions compared to its predecessor.

With the adoption of the plug-in hybrid system, the Octavia RS iV becomes the first “sports” Skoda to be electrified, following a path already adopted by the “normal” Octavias.

Finally, as if to whet our curiosity about the new Octavia RS iV, Skoda unveiled three teasers which not only anticipate the shapes of the Octavia sports variant but also confirm that it will continue to be available in minivan format.

As far as we can judge from the teasers, it is clear that the Octavia RS iV will continue to use the differentiating elements used so far by the most powerful Skodas. Thus, you will have the wheels designated "Xtreme", double tailpipes, redesigned bumpers and the traditional aerodynamic appendages.

For now, Skoda has not revealed whether it intends to create RS versions of Octavia without being plug-in hybrids. However, judging by the increasingly stringent anti-pollution standards, this is likely not to happen.
