That Smart is getting ready to launch an electric SUV in 2022 we already knew. However, so far we haven't had any glimpses of what will be the brand's biggest model ever.
Perhaps aware of this, Smart unveiled a set of teasers and sketches of its new model, the first to be released after the creation of the joint venture between Geely and Mercedes-Benz.
From what we can see in the images now released (mainly in the sketches), the new SUV, codenamed HX11, despite having its own identity, maintains a notorious “family air” due to the rounded lines that define it, typical of the Smart's proposals.
In the field of dimensions, despite not having been released figures for the biggest Smart ever, everything points to this SUV targeting models like the MINI Countryman, which measures practically 4.3 m in length.
What do we already know?
Under the joint venture that joined Mercedes-Benz and Geely, the Germans will be responsible for the design of the new electric SUV and the Chinese will take over the development and production.

So it's no wonder that the platform planned to serve as the foundation for this new model is Geely's SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture), specific for electrics, capable of supporting one, two or three engines and loads up to 800 V.
Although nothing is official yet, there are rumors that Smart's new electric SUV will have the engine mounted on the rear axle. With a maximum power of 272 hp (200 kW) it will be powered by a lithium-ion battery with 70 kWh that will allow more than 500 km of autonomy, but in accordance with the Chinese NEDC cycle.
