Skoda VisionC, Skoda to thrill?

Scheduled for presentation in March, at the Geneva show, the Skoda VisionC foresees not only the evolution of the brand's visual language, but also intends to bring some emotion, with rumors pointing to a production model in the near future.

To understand what the Skoda VisionC is, this is to the Skoda Octavia what the Volkswagen CC is to the Volkswagen Passat. It is anticipated that the Skoda VisionC could originate a production model, based on the Skoda Octavia and its MQB platform, integrating the niche of the (fake) 4-door coupés. And you can't even call it 4 doors, because, like the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 4 Series GranCoupe, the Skoda VisionC will have a 5th rear door, by including the rear window in the opening.

The rules are well known for this niche. The windows are a little lower, the roofline more fluid, access to the rear seats hampered. You gain in style, you lose in usability. That said, this niche, officially started by the first Mercedes CLS, continues to prove a commercial success, having allowed it to inject a necessary dose of attractiveness and emotion into the conventional sedan or saloon, with a coupe-style bodywork, but without inheriting all the disadvantages of these. And of course, the brand's appeal soars with models with an extra dash of emotion. At Skoda, best known for the rationality of its models, a little Czech emotion won't go wrong.

It is not the first time that Skoda, after its acquisition by Volkswagen, has tried to bring some emotion to the brand, as the image above attests. The Skoda Tudor was introduced as a concept in 2002 and explored the coupé typology, based on the recently introduced Skoda Superb. Despite the concept's success, it never really came to fruition, that is, it never made it to the production line. Perhaps the Skoda VisionC will have better luck.
