CALM – “Child Anarchy Layoff Mode” aims to cancel out children's noise and can be activated by voice, as it is integrated in the SYNC 3 system. According to Theresa Earthy, technician at Ford's Intrusive Oscillation Laboratory,
“Our aim is to make our car interiors as relaxing as possible, but while we can develop intuitive controls and comfortable seating, there has been nothing we could do to avoid the driver stress created by passengers…until now. CALM is particularly effective in reducing high-pitched noise for younger passengers, but we are also developing a version that can cancel out lower frequencies like those of the mother-in-law.”
