Launched on the European market in 2014 — it was introduced in the US in 2012 as Fusion — the Ford Mondeo receives a very welcome renovation. Presented at the Brussels Motor Show, it brings a slight aesthetic update and new engines.

New style

Like the Fiesta and Focus, the Mondeo also more expressively separates the different versions, Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale. Thus, on the outside, we can see different finishes for the new trapezoidal grille and the shape of the lower grille.

The Mondeo also gets new LED daytime running lights, fog lights, new “C” rear optics intersected by a chrome or satin silver bar, which extends across the entire width. Also noteworthy are new exterior tones, such as “Azul Petróleo Urban”.

new engines

On the mechanical plane, the big news is the introduction of the new EcoBlue (diesel) with 2.0 l of capacity, which is available in three power levels: 120 hp, 150 hp and 190 hp, with estimated CO2 emissions of 117 g/km, 118 g/km and 130 g/km, respectively.

Compared to the previous 2.0 TDCi Duratorq unit, the new 2.0 EcoBlue features a new integrated intake system with mirrored manifolds to optimize engine response; low-inertia turbocharger to boost torque at low rpm; and a high-pressure fuel injection system, quieter and with greater precision in fuel delivery.

New Mondeo Hybrid Station Wagon

We've already had the opportunity to conduct the current Ford Mondeo Hybrid (see highlight), a version that remains in the renewed range and also includes the Station Wagon, the van. The advantage is that it offers more space for luggage than the car — 403 l against 383 l — but still well below the 525 l of conventionally motorized Mondeo Station Wagons.

This is due to the space occupied by some components of the hybrid system in the rear of the and Mondeo. The hybrid system consists of a 2.0 l gasoline engine, which runs on the Atkinson cycle, an electric motor, a generator, a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and an automatic transmission with power distribution.

In total, we have at our disposal 187 hp, but allowing for moderate consumption and emissions: from 4.4 l/100 km and 101 g/km in the Station Wagon and from 4.2 l/100 km and 96 g/km in the car.
