Volvo V60 hits 500,000 units sold

If there's one thing Volvo is known for, it's their vans. From the iconic 240 and 260 to the modern V90 through to the V60, there were few models from the Swedish brand that didn't have the right to a family version (excluding SUVs, of course). And even when Volvo didn't make them, someone “handled it,” as happened with the 440.

That said, the fact that the two generations of the V60 have reached the mark of 500 thousand units sold turns out to be no great surprise. After all, it can almost be said that talking about Volvo is talking about vans, with the Swedish brand accounting for more than 6 million vans sold since the launch of Volvo Duett in 1953.

The Volvo V60 generations

Launched in 2010, the first generation of the Volvo V60 came to break with a certain tradition of the brand that “dictated” that, with rare exceptions such as the V40, Swedish vans presented themselves with a “square” look.

Volvo V60

Launched in 2010, the first generation V60 left behind the "square" look typical of the Swedish brand's vans.

As you would expect in a Volvo model, the first V60 had numerous safety systems, having even debuted worldwide the Pedestrian Detection with automatic braking that allowed the detection of pedestrians and was able to brake automatically in an emergency.

The second generation of the V60 appeared in 2019 and does not hide the similarities with the V90.

As early as 2018, the V60 experienced its second generation (and, interestingly, a return to more “square” shapes). Developed based on the SPA platform (the same as the S90/V90, XC90 and XC60).

This new generation has reinforced its commitment to safety, bringing with it another world first, the Oncoming Mitigation system, which detects vehicles going against the traffic and is capable of automatically braking.
