Launched in 2014 the second generation of Hyundai i20 This year it had its first facelift. Thus, Hyundai's proposal for the segment where models such as the Renault Clio, the SEAT Ibiza or the Ford Fiesta compete saw the entire range be renewed both in terms of aesthetics and technology.

Available in five-door, three-door and crossover versions (the i20 Active) the Hyundai model has undergone some aesthetic improvements at the front and, above all at the rear, where it now has a new tailgate, new bumpers. shocks and even new taillights with LED signature. At the front, the highlights are the new grille and the use of LEDs for daytime running lights.

The first renovated i20 that we had the opportunity to test was the Style Plus five-door version equipped with the 1.2 MPi engine with 84 hp and 122 Nm of torque. If you want to get to know this version better, check out the video of our test here.

In addition to the 1.2 MPi of 84 hp that we had the opportunity to test, the i20 also has a less powerful version of the 1.2 MPi, with only 75 hp and 122 Nm of torque and with the 1.0 T-GDi engine. This is available in the 100hp and 172Nm version or the more powerful version with 120hp and the same 172Nm of torque. Diesel engines were not included in the i20 range.

The i20 we had the opportunity to test was equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox and revealed that its main focus is fuel consumption. Thus, in normal driving it was possible to reach consumption in the region of 5.6 l/100km.

Improvements in connectivity and security

In this renewal of the i20, Hyundai also took the opportunity to improve the i20 in terms of connectivity and security systems. As if to prove this bet on connectivity, the i20 that we tested had an infotainement system that used a 7″ screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of safety equipment, the i20 now provides equipment such as the Lane Departure Warning (LDWS), Lane Maintenance System (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (FCA) city and intercity, Fatigue Alert Driver (DAW) and Automatic High Peak Control System (HBA).

Prices

The prices of the renewed Hyundai i20 start at 15 750 euros for the Comfort version with the 1.2 MPi engine in the 75 hp version, and the version tested by us, the Style Plus with the 84 hp 1.2 MPi engine, costs 19 950 euros .

For versions equipped with the 1.0 T-GDi the price starts at 15 750 euros for the Comfort version with 100 hp (however until December 31 you can buy it from 13 250 euros thanks to a Hyundai campaign). The 120 hp version of the 1.0 T-GDi is only available in the Style Plus equipment level and priced at €19,950.

If you want to combine the 100 hp 1.0 T-GDi engine with the seven-speed automatic transmission, prices start at €17,500 for the i20 1.0 T-GDi DCT Comfort and €19,200 for the 1.0 T-GDi DCT Style.
