In 2016 there is no lack of reasons to celebrate, as BMW says. It was precisely three decades ago that the German brand launched the first generation of the M3 (E30), a model that would mark its history like no other.
In the year of the 100th anniversary of the brand, there were already several commemorative models launched by BMW, as can be seen here, here and here. But 2016 is also the year that marks the 30th anniversary of the start of production of the BMW M3, and as such, the Munich brand could not let the date pass without another exclusive model, the 30 Jahre M3 (jahre means “years” in German).
And there are several differences compared to the M3 standard. Starting with the exterior appearance, the bodywork was painted in shades of dark blue – Macao Blue Metallic, the European debut color of the most powerful Sport Evo BMW M3 – with the grille and exhaust pipes darkened, in addition to the new alloy wheels 20-inch and high-performance tires. Inside, in addition to the inscriptions “30 Jahre M3” all over the cabin, the highlight goes to the new leather upholstery to match the body colors.

On a mechanical level, the big news is the BMW Competition Package, which in practice translates into an increase in power and torque to 450 hp and 550 Nm, adaptive suspension, new rear differential and a Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with different settings. Equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the sport takes just 3.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, according to the brand.
The 30 Jahre M3 is limited to 500 units and will be available towards the end of the month, for a price yet to be revealed.
