Jaguar Lightweight E-Type: reborn 50 years later

The story is no longer new to our readers. But we can repeat it again—good stories deserve to be repeated. For that we have to go back to 1963. At which time Jaguar promised the world to produce 18 units of a very special version of the historic E-Type. Dubbed Lightweight, it was a more extreme version of the regular E-Type.

THE Jaguar Lightweight E-Type it weighed 144 kg less — this weight reduction was achieved thanks to the use of aluminum for the monocoque, body panels and engine block — and delivered 300 hp from a 3.8 l in-line six-cylinder engine just like the one before. been installed on the D-Types that beat Le Mans at that time.

It turns out that instead of the promised 18 units, Jaguar only produced 12 units. 50 years later, Jaguar decided to "pay" to the world those 18 units, faithfully reproducing six more units, using exactly the same materials, technologies and techniques of the time. A job that was in charge of the brand's new division: JLR Special Operations.

To mark the re-introduction (!?) of the new 50-year-old model, Jaguar will be present at the Peeble Beach Concours D’Elegance, which this week will be held in California. A place where fans can once again see this historic car in action. These six Jaguar E-type Lightweights are intended for Jaguar collectors, or alternatively, for those who have the possibility to spend 1.22 million euros for a “new” classic car.
