Mazda unveils Speedster and Spyder concepts at SEMA

The Mazda MX-5 was the inspiration for two radical models, focused on the essence of the model: driving pleasure

According to Ken Saward, Mazda North America's design director, the brand's concepts presented at SEMA – a North American event dedicated to special models and after market – faithfully follow the Hiroshima brand identity and pay homage to the heritage of the various generations of the Mazda MX-5.

As we can see, the MX-5 Spyder features a carbon fiber bodywork and leather interiors, which give it a vintage look. A design that recalls the English roadsters of the 60s:

The MX-5 Speedster is more focused on performance. It's 113kg lighter and stands out through the windshield… or lack of it. According to Mazda, the aim was to bring back the sense of freedom that was typical of mid-century sports cars.

The cars will be on display at SEMA until Friday. It remains to be seen whether any of these “toys” even make it to the production line.
