The Mercedes SLS Black Series reveals the darker side of the super-sport from the emblematic home of Stuttgart.
It's a case of saying: The good got even better. Lighter, more powerful and faster, that's how we can describe the 2014 Black Series version of the Mercedes SLS. The tallest and most dignified representative of the Stuttgart sports car lineage.
As usual in the Mercedes Black Series versions, less weight and more power are the main condiments in a recipe for a very “fine” seasoning. With the same 6.2 liter V8 engine that we already know from the «normal» versions, but now with a maximum power of 622hp and the ability to scale the rev counter up to 8,000 rpm, the SLS Black Series can fulfill the exercise of 0-100 km/ h in just 3.6 seconds. A value that will also not be oblivious to the loss of 70 kg of total weight in the set, thanks to the use of numerous carbon parts.
Designed for maximum performance, this edition features some elements inspired by the GT3 version, such as the wider tracks that manage to lend the SLS Black Series an even fiercer look. As an option, customers of the house in Stuttgart can also purchase a kit of carbon fiber parts that includes an adjustable front and rear wing, among other treats. Also noteworthy are the new, more radical electronic differential and the transmission made entirely of carbon, which improves the engine's response to the driver's demands. The launched boot system, aka launch control, and adaptive suspensions are also part of the package.
As for the price, there are things that are better not known. Mercedes adheres to this same philosophy and has not yet disclosed the value for which the Black Series will be marketed in 2014, when the first units will be delivered to the fortunate interested parties.
