Brabus, responsible for the poisoning and transfiguration of models from the aristocratic German brand Mercedes-Benz, has made its own again. This time, the victim was the calm and equally aristocratic “conveyor belt” Mercedes CL600.
Despite being powerful, having traction to the rear wheels and presenting itself in a coupé configuration, this model has never had any kind of aspiration to be a track-day's eater or twisted roads. The environment the Mercedes CL is designed for is AutoBahn’s, and its character is anything but explosive.
Until today… because now, all owners of this model will be able to use the services of Brabus to spice it up a little more – ok… spice it up a lot! – the journeys aboard this mile-devouring missile equipped with a V12 engine. Like? Through a kit launched by Brabus that makes use of the brand's usual “modus operandi”: Dramatize everything! From the bodywork, through the engine and not forgetting the interior.
But let's get to what really matters: the engine! Brabus “rolled up its sleeves” and squeezed the V12 block as much as it could, although without going into exaggerations that compromised reliability.
In addition to optimizing the engine's electronic management, it made profound changes to the heart of the engine. Namely changing the size of the pistons, crankshaft, cylinder head and cylinder explosion order. The turbos were not forgotten and were replaced by two other units with more “lung”.
Translating these changes into numerical expressions, we get an increase in displacement of 800cc – now 6.3 liters, when before it had “only” 5.5 liters – a torque of 1,482 Nm(!) and nothing less than 800 hp!
Practical result? 350km/h top speed (electronically limited!); acceleration from 0-100km/h in 3.9sec and an even more expressive 10.3sec. from 0 to 200km/h. Enough to wrinkle the tar or change the earth's orbit.
The suspension also features a tuning less dedicated to comfort and more concerned with other issues… You understand where I'm going, don't you?
The brakes have not been forgotten, and calipers and discs have been fitted, which should not owe anything to the brakes of a Boeing 747. It should not be forgotten that this model weighs more than two tons!
The interior, in turn, with the typical Mercedes-built quality of assembly, adds the application of carbon parts and new linings throughout the cabin in leather and Alcantara, lending this version a sportier atmosphere.
Interested?! Oil companies are certainly grateful…
