This is the new Opel Zafira Life. What happened to you, Zafira?

Anonim

Since 1999, the name Zafira has been synonymous with MPV in the Opel range. Now, twenty years after the launch of the first generation, the German brand has decided to launch what it calls the fourth generation of its compact MPV, the Opel Zafira Life.

With its world premiere scheduled for January 18 at the Brussels Motor Show, the new Opel Zafira Life will be available in three variants with different lengths: the “small” 4.60 m (about 10 cm less than the current Zafira) , the “average” with 4.95 m and the “large” with 5.30 m in length. Common to all is the capacity to carry up to nine passengers.

As you may have noticed, the new Zafira Life is a sister of the Peugeot Traveler and Citroën Spacetourer (which in turn are based on the Citroën Jumpy and Peugeot Expert). Therefore, it is not surprising that the new Opel model will have a 4×4 version developed by Dangel. As early as 2021, the electric version of Opel's new minivan should appear.

Times are changing…the truth is that the new Opel Zafira Life is descended from the future of Opel Vívaro, no longer being the compact MPV and model apart from Opel.

Security equipment abounds

If there's an area that Opel bet on when creating the new Zafira Life, it was safety. Thus, the German brand decided to offer its latest model a series of safety systems and driving assistance such as adaptive cruise control, emergency braking system, lane maintenance system and even a driver tiredness warning system .

Although the presentation is already scheduled for the 18th of this month, data on the engines, prices and arrival date of the new Opel Zafira Life are not yet known.

Opel Zafira Life has equipment such as a head-up display (which shows speed, distance to the vehicle in front and navigation indications), a 7" touchscreen, automatic switching of mid-highs and the Multimedia system or Multimedia Navi (the second integrates navigation system).

What happened to you, Zafira?

Right now you're probably asking yourself, just like us: what happened to Zafira? Despite its name, this new Zafira Life will be more easily recognized as a successor to the Vívaro Tourer than as the fourth generation of the Opel Zafira.

A MPV whose first generation was developed in conjunction with Porsche, having been the first seven-seater compact MPV, and even saw the second generation establish itself as the fastest MPV on the Nürburgring, a record it holds to this day.

MPV's are in decline (because… SUV), but didn't the Zafira name deserve better luck?
