Peugeot bets on plug-in hybrids with the new 508 HYBRID and 3008 GT HYBRID4

After having abandoned Diesel hybrids, Peugeot returns to the… charge, this time with a new generation of plug-in hybrids, only associated with gasoline engines.

Peugeot 508 (with sales starting in Portugal in October), 508 SW and 3008 gain HYBRID versions, less polluting — announce only 49 g/km of CO2 emissions —

In the case of the SUV 3008, it will receive a second hybrid variant, called HYBRID4, synonymous with four-wheel drive, where an additional electric motor is installed on the rear axle.

five driving modes

Among the various technologies available on the new 508 HYBRID and 3008 HYBRID4, a system with up to five driving modes: ZERO EMISSION, synonymous with 100% electrical use; SPORT, greater performance permanently resorting to both propulsion systems; HYBRID, for greater versatility; COMFORT, which, present only in the Peugeot 508 HYBRID, combines the HYBRID mode with the more comfortable mode of the electronically controlled suspension; and finally the 4WD mode, available only on the 3008 HYBRID4, which guarantees permanent all-wheel drive.

Peugeot 3008 GT HYBRID4 with 300 hp

By announcing 300 hp of maximum power, the Peugeot 3008 GT HYBRID4 , thus becomes the most powerful road Peugeot ever. In this configuration, the 1.6 PureTech gasoline block produces 200 hp, to which two electric motors with 110 hp each are added. One of them, positioned on the rear axle (with multiple arms), accompanied by an inverter and a reducer, ensuring four-wheel drive.

The total combined power of the three engines is 300 hp power , ensuring a acceleration capability from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5s , in addition to a autonomy in 100% electric mode of about 50 km (WLTP) , derived from a 13.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack located under the rear seats. .

HYBRID, less horsepower and two-wheel drive

As for the HYBRID, available not only on the 3008, but also on the 508 saloon and van (SW), announces a combined power of 225 hp , a result of the 180 hp of the 1.6 PureTech and the 110 hp coming from just one electric motor.

With only front-wheel drive, these HYBRID versions have a slightly smaller battery pack, 11.8 kWh, which guarantees, in the case of the 508, an electric autonomy of 40 km — and which, as in the HYBRID4, it can be used at speeds up to 135 km/h.

specific transmission

Both HYBRID and HYBRID4 come with a new eight-speed automatic transmission specific for hybrid versions, called e-EAT8 , or Electric Efficient Automatic Transmission – 8 Speeds.

The difference between the e-EAT8 and the EAT8 that we already know lies in the replacement of the torque converter with a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath, in order to ensure smoother transitions between electrical and thermal operation; modifications that guarantee an additional 60 Nm of torque, for greater reactivity.

Loadings

With regard to the battery charges , both the 508 and the 3008 can recharge their packs through a 3.3 kW household socket with 8 A (amperes) or reinforced socket with 3.3 kW and 14 A, in a period of time that varies between the eight and four hours, respectively.

Optionally, customers can also install a 6.6 kW and 32 A Wallbox, which can guarantee a recharge the batteries in less than two hours.

Technologies

As the most prominent technologies in these versions, the new Brake function, which allows you to brake the car without touching the pedal, working as an engine brake, and recharging the batteries in the process.

Also present is the new i-Booster system , a piloted braking system, which recovers the energy dissipated in braking or deceleration, integrating an electric pump for its operation, instead of a vacuum pump present in thermal versions..

Also present, the new e-SAVE function , which allows you to save part or all of the battery capacity — it can be for just 10 or 20 km, or for full autonomy — for later use.

Finally, the differences for the versions with only the heat engine can also be observed on the Peugeot i-Cockpit instrument panel, where the pressure gauge on the right, traditionally used for the rev counter, is now occupied by a specific pressure gauge, with three zones well marked: ECO , the stage when driving is most energy efficient; POWER , when driving can be more dynamic and energetic; and CARTOON , the phase in which the energy dissipated during deceleration and braking, is reused to charge the battery.

Available in 2019

Although already unveiled, the truth is that both the new Peugeot 508 HYBRID and the 3008 HYBRID4, should only be available a year from now, in the fall of 2019 . As for prices, they should only be known closer to launch.

The Peugeot 3008 GT HYBRID4, 3008 HYBRID, 508 HYBRID and 508 SW HYBRID will be presented to the public during the next week at the Paris Motor Show.
