Now it's official. This is the new Porsche 911 (992)

After a long wait here he is, the new Porsche 911 and how could it be otherwise… the similarities with the previous generation are obvious. Because, as always, the rule at Porsche when it comes to modernizing its most iconic model is: evolve in continuity.

So, we start by challenging you to detect the differences between the previous generation and the new one. On the outside, despite maintaining the family air, it is noted that the Porsche 911 (992) has a more muscular posture, with wider wheel arches and bodywork compared to the previous generation.

At the front, the main innovations are related to the new bonnet with pronounced creases, which bring to mind the first generations of the model, and the new headlights that use LED technology.

At the rear, the highlight goes to the increase in width, the variable position spoiler, the new light strip that crosses the entire rear section and also the grille that appears next to the glass and where the third STOP light appears. .

Inside the new Porsche 911

If the differences are not noticeable on the outside, the same cannot be said when we reach the interior of the eighth generation of the 911. In aesthetic terms, the dashboard is dominated by straight and creased lines, reminiscent of a modernized version of the first 911's cabins ( here too the concern with the “family air” is notorious).

The tachometer (analog) appears on the instrument panel, of course, in a central position. Next to it, Porsche has installed two screens that provide the driver with different information. However, the big news on the dashboard of the new Porsche 911 is the 10.9″ central touchscreen. To facilitate its use, Porsche also installed five physical buttons below this one that allow direct access to important 911 functions.

The engines

For now, Porsche has only released data on the supercharged six-cylinder boxer engine that will power the 911 Carrera S and the 911 Carrera 4S. In this new generation, Porsche claims that thanks to a more efficient injection process, a new configuration of turbochargers and the cooling system has managed to improve engine efficiency.

In terms of power, the 3.0 l six-cylinder boxer now produces 450 hp (30 hp more compared to the previous generation) . For now, the only gearbox available is the new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Although Porsche does not confirm, the most likely is that a manual seven-speed gearbox will be available, as it happens in the current generation of the 911.

In terms of performance, the rear-wheel-drive 911 Carrera S went from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7s (0.4s less than the previous generation) and manages to reach 308 km/h of top speed. The 911 Carrera 4S, all-wheel drive, also became 0.4s faster than its predecessor, reaching 100 km/h in 3.6s, and achieving a top speed of 306 km/h.

If you opt for the optional Sport Chrono Package, the times from 0 to 100 km/h are reduced by 0.2s. In terms of consumption and emissions, Porsche announces 8.9 l/100 km and 205 g/km of CO2 for the Carrera S and 9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 206 g/km for the Carrera 4S.

Although Porsche has yet to reveal more data, the brand is developing plug-in hybrid versions with all-wheel drive of the 911. However, it is not yet known when these will be available nor are there known technical data about them.

New generation means more technology

The 911 comes with a series of new aids and driving modes, including a “Wet” mode, which detects when there is water on the road and calibrates the Porsche Stability Management system to better react to these conditions. The Porsche 911 also has an adaptive cruise control system with automatic distance control and a stop and start function.

As an option, Porsche also offers a night vision assistant with thermal imaging. Standard on every 911 is the warning and braking system that detects impending collisions and is able to brake if necessary.

Among the technological offer of the new Porsche 911 we also find three apps. The first is the Porsche Road Trip, and it helps to plan and organize trips. Porsche Impact calculates the emissions and the financial contribution that 911 owners can make to offset their CO2 footprint. Finally, the Porsche 360+ works as a personal assistant.
