Are you thinking of a crossover? These are the main highlights of the Toyota C-HR

Anonim

Designed to distinguish itself not only among Toyotas, but also among the countless proposals of one of the most disputed segments today — the crossover — the Toyota C-HR is defined by its bold style and distinguished from the others by the technology used. .

The Toyota C-HR — by Coupe High Rider — is the result of the fusion of a coupé, with the typical descending roofline, and an SUV if we look at its lower volume, muscular wheel arches and height to the ground.

The result is a crossover capable of combining aesthetic values such as robustness, with lines with a strong dynamic character.

Made in Europe

The Toyota C-HR was the first model derived from the TNGA platform to be produced outside Japan and the third hybrid model to have European production. The C-HR is produced at TMMT (Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey), this factory has a total annual production capacity of 280 thousand vehicles and around 5000 employees.

Toyota's proposal for the crossover universe is thus guided by a design with a strong emotional charge and distinction. In a word? Unmistakable. This differentiation continues in the interior, following the “Sensual Tech” philosophy that combines high-tech features with a sensual and contemporary style.

The bet on style was clearly won, with corresponding commercial success on the European continent, being among the 10 best sellers in the segment, with more than 108 thousand units already delivered.

It all starts at the base

But the Toyota C-HR isn't just a style statement — it has substance to back it up. It was one of the brand's first models to adopt the new TNGA platform — debuted by the fourth generation Prius — which guarantees the crossover a low center of gravity and provides solid foundations for precise handling — the rear axle uses a multilink scheme —, at the same time providing good levels of comfort.

Particular attention has been paid to the steering, with precise and linear response, and despite the more pronounced ground clearance, bodywork trim is limited, contributing to on-board stability and comfort.

Bet on electrification

The Toyota C-HR is available in two engines, both gasoline, with the hybrid variant standing out. The first, with only an internal combustion engine, is a 1.2 l, four-cylinder, turbocharged 116 hp unit, associated with a six-speed manual transmission and two-wheel drive. The official consumption is at 5.9 l/100 km in combined cycle and 135 g/km.

The second, called Hybrid, combines the efforts of the heat engine with an electric motor and reinforces Toyota's commitment to electrification and economy of use.

The Toyota C-HR is the only one in its segment to offer hybrid technology.

The focus is on efficiency and consequent low emissions — just 86 g/km and 3.8 l/100 km — but it is also capable of guaranteeing performance that is more than adequate for everyday life. The hybrid powertrain consists of two engines: one thermal and one electric.

How does the C-HR hybrid system work?

"In nature nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is transformed," said Lavoisier. Toyota's hybrid system respects the same principle, recovering energy from braking to assist the heat engine when it needs to offer greater efficiency. Result? Lower emissions and consumption. Thanks to this technology, the C-HR can travel short distances in 100% electric mode or switch off the combustion engine at cruising speed.

The thermal engine is an in-line four-cylinder with 1.8 liter capacity, which operates on the efficient Atkinson cycle — with 40% efficiency, this technology is at the top of efficiency for gasoline engines — producing 98 hp at 5200 rpm . The electric motor delivers 72 hp and 163 Nm of instantaneous torque. The combined power between the two engines is 122 hp and the transmission to the front wheels is done through an electronically controlled CVT (Continuous Variation Transmission) box.
