It seems that Hyundai is developing a new engine… gasoline!

Anonim

In an era when electrification seems to be the buzzword in the auto industry, it appears that Hyundai has not yet completely given up on gasoline internal combustion engines.

According to the South Korean publication Kyunghyang Shinmun, Hyundai's N division will be working on a four-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline engine with 2.3 l capacity.

This will supposedly replace the current 2.0 l four-cylinder that equips, for example, the Hyundai i30 N, and should, according to that publication, accelerate up to 7000 rpm.

Will the next Hyundai i30 N resort to a turbocharged four-cylinder with 2.3 l? Only time will tell, but there are rumors that it may be true.

What else is known?

Unfortunately, for now, there is no more information about this “mystery engine” or when we will be able to find out about it.

Adding further to the mystery is the fact that, as Carscoops recalls, a Hyundai prototype with the “MR23” graphics on the side was seen in April. Is this an allusion to the engine's capacity?

For now, all this is just speculation, however, we were not surprised that this engine would debut on board the future sports “mid-engine” of Hyundai that was anticipated by the prototype Hyundai RM19 at the Motor Show last year.

In any case, if the arrival of this new engine is confirmed, it will always have to be seen as good news. After all, it is always good to see a brand committed to electrification such as Hyundai (see the example of the dedicated E-GMP platform) not completely abdicate the “old man” combustion engine.
