Why are two Lexus LFAs testing at the Nürburgring?

Anonim

why are there two Lexus LFA testing at the Nürburgring and with partial camouflage? It is a discontinued car in 2012… It doesn't make sense. Or does it?

The released images show the LFA wearing camouflage on the front and rear fenders. It is also worth noting the fact that one of the LFAs has larger tires and rims, which almost go beyond the limits of the bodywork.

The wings at the corners of the front bumper and the rear spoiler make it clear that the Lexus LFA being tested are examples of the rare Nürburgring Edition version. In the images published, it is even possible to see measuring equipment in the cars, which makes their presence on the circuit even more intriguing.

Will it be a successor to the LFA or not?

As much as we'd like to, Lexus has already stated that it does not plan to launch a successor to the LFA, so the question remains: why are these two LFAs being tested in “green hell”?

The strongest possibility is that they are test “mules” to try out solutions for Toyota's super-sports future. Toyota is preparing a super-sport based on the winning Le Mans prototype, the TS050 Hybrid. The super sports car will share with the competition car not only the carbon monocoque, but also the 2.4l bi-turbo V6 aided by a hybrid system.

Thus, it is possible that the brand's engineers are testing solutions in terms of suspension and brakes, something that justifies the changes in the mudguards, as well as the different measurements of the tires and rims observed in the two test cars.

What is certain is that the Toyota GR Super Sport Concept will indeed be a reality, with its arrival foreseen at the end of the decade, just in time to be part of the future WEC regulation, which should dispense with LMP1 prototypes, to make way for a new one super-GT generation. Something similar to the GT1 seen in the late 90's.
