In July 2018, the number of new registrations soared by 10.5% in Portugal (23,300 motor vehicles in total, including 2956 heavy vehicles), when compared to the value registered in the same month of 2017.

This is a generally strong month in the car market, for several reasons. Note that the growth in July 2017 was 11.5% in light vehicles, compared to the previous year.

There are several reasons that help explain this growth (over 2367 light units), the strongest of which the will of some brands to stock cars with taxation prior to September 1, 2018 (FIAT grew 53.8% this month and it wasn't just because of the RaC), the date from which the WLTP rules will increase the price of some models.

For the same reason, and also to control the impact of the increase in CO2 on the entire fleet, some companies anticipated orders already translated into registered cars.

Other factors such as the resumption of purchasing power, the use of subsidy (this year as a whole) for entry, the increase in credit and even a progressive adhesion to new financing modalities by individuals, also help to explain this growth.

With the result of July, the growth of the car market in Portugal in the first seven months of the year translates into a 6% growth.
