As a rule, in the automotive world the words performance, economy and low emissions do not go “hand in hand”. However there are exceptions and the Volkswagen Golf GTE is one of them.
Unveiled a few months ago (we should have seen it in Geneva), the new Golf GTE is now the protagonist of another video on our YouTube channel, with Diogo Teixeira putting it to the test in Germany.
Without wanting to give you too many details about the most ecological of sports Golf (for that you have the video), let me reveal some characteristics of this Volkswagen Golf GTE.
In the aesthetic chapter we have the usual exclusive details that allow this version to stand out from the rest of the Golf, in which case the details appear in blue. But it's under the hood that the main point of interest is.
Power doesn't lack
As far as mechanics are concerned, the Golf GTE “home” a 1.4 TSI of 150 hp to an electric motor with 85 kW (116 hp) powered by a battery with 13 kWh (50% more than in the predecessor).

The end result is a combined power of 245 hp and 400 Nm , 41 hp more than the predecessor, and a value identical to that presented by the new Golf GTI!
Equipped with a six-speed DSG gearbox, the Golf GTE is capable of traveling up to 59 km in 100% electric mode.
In the field of performance, 100 km/h is reached in just 6.7s and the maximum speed is fixed at 225 km/h.
When does it arrive and how much will it cost?
Available in two equipment levels in Portugal, the Golf GTE hits our market in October.
Prices start at 40 922 euros (less 6000 euros than the predecessor) in the base version and rise to 42 565 euros requested for the Plus version with 18” wheels, adaptive suspension and rear camera.
