Model that is part of the already announced strategy to expand the electric range “i”, the BMW i4 will be based, as revealed by the CEO of the German brand, Harald Kruger, on the sidelines of the Geneva Motor Show, the prototype BMW i Vision Dynamics that the builder made it known at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. With the production of the new model to be delivered, now, to the Munich factory.

At last year's Frankfurt Motor Show we showcased one of our visions for the future of electric mobility with the introduction of the BMW iVision Dynamics. That car will come true. Let's build it in Munich – it will be the BMW i4.

BMW i4 electric, with a range of 600 km

As for the issue of propulsion, BMW points out as objectives for this new proposal, not only an autonomy in the order of 600 kilometers, but also performances that should be around 200 km/h of maximum speed, as well as 4.0 s in the acceleration of the 0 to 100 km/h. It remains to be seen whether it will succeed, not least because it would still be an excellent business card; especially, given what is, for example, the autonomy announced by the (assumed) rival Tesla Model S — 490 km, in the version equipped with a 75 kWh battery.

The model is also expected to debut the fifth generation of battery technology used by BMW, which will begin to appear equally in several plug-in and electric hybrids, around 2020.

BMW i4 just for the next decade

Before the launch of the i4, the new generation Mini Electric should appear in 2019; the electric variant of the SUV X3 in 2020; and the long-awaited BMW iNext, scheduled for 2021. With the i4 arriving, it seems, around 2022.

It should be remembered that BMW has already set the objective of having on sale, by 2025, a total of 25 electric or electrified vehicles, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids and electric ones. In this way, continuing a strategy that, in 2017 alone, allowed the Munich manufacturer to market more than 100,000 cars of this type, not only BMW, but also Mini.
