Driven by the success that the versions equipped with the Competition Package have been gaining, BMW has just taken a radical decision: at the same time as it presents the new BMW M5 Competition, the German manufacturer also announces the creation of a new product category for the its division M.

Aware of the growing preference of customers for the Competition Package, which in the previous generation of the M5 represented almost 40% of orders, the Munich brand decided to elevate the status of the Competition Package to that of a model, thus creating the M Competitions, which will be the most powerful in the M hierarchy.

BMW M5 Competition with over 25 hp

As for the BMW M5 Competition itself, the official information now released confirms the rumors that have emerged so far, namely, an increase of 25 hp in the power extracted from the 4.4 liter M TwinPower Turbo V8. Which starts to deliver 625 hp at 6000 rpm, in addition to 750 Nm of torque, available in a wider tachometer range — from 1800 to 5800 rpm, ie an increase of 200 rpm compared to the standard version.

Thanks to these attributes, the BMW M5 Competition can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3s, and from 0 to 200 km/h in no more than 10.8s. Basically 0.3s less than the regular M5. The maximum speed is fixed at 305 km/h.

Traction system at the customer's discretion

Equipped as standard with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive system, the BMW M5 Competition also has a system of three transmission modes — Efficient, Sport, Ultra-High Performance — selected through a button on the box selector. Power can either be distributed to all four wheels or exclusively to the rear axle thanks to the presence of the M active differential.

As for the suspension, in this version it assumes as standard a variable control system with three operating modes — Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus — and guarantees a ground clearance 7 mm smaller than in the regular M5. Thanks to the addition of a stabilizer bar, the German brand announces a 10% gain in the firmness of the shock absorbers.

In terms of braking, the carbon-ceramic discs remain optional.

With an exhaust system with four black chrome tips, the new BMW M5 Competition also offers the possibility for the driver to change the “sound character” of the model, using the M Sound Control button.

The same glossy black of the tips is also present in many other places, from the door handles, to the door mirror covers, details on the bumpers, rear spoiler and rear M5 logo. In addition to the door frames and the B pillar.
