Cold Start. It's been 20 years since the unveiling of the Porsche Carrera GT

It was in 2000, on the eve of the Paris Salon, that we first saw the Porsche Carrera GT , a super sports car the likes of which he had never seen at Porsche, born from the ashes of his competition program for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The production version would take three years to arrive and when it did, the impact was big: the first Porsche with a carbon fiber monocoque, the first production car with a ceramic clutch, the first V10 in a road Porsche, and probably one of the last true analogue supersports — at least until the unveiling of the GMA T.50.

We have the most unlikely Porsche to thank for the emergence of the Carrera GT. It was the commercial success of the Cayenne, the much criticized and controversial first SUV of the German brand, to finance this beautiful and analogical eccentricity.

Equipped with an atmospheric V10 vocal (612 hp) mounted behind the back, six-speed manual gearbox — with a delightful knob topped by a birch and ash ball —, rear-wheel drive, and a nimble but considered demeanor... delicate to the limit, the Porsche Carrera GT continues to fascinate as when it was new.
