WLTP. As of September 1, a new method of calculating CO2 emissions (WLTP – Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) will come into force. It may increase the value of taxes associated with cars and, consequently, influence their final price.
This means that, with this new form of calculation that is expected to be more accurate, measured and declared CO2 emissions will be expected to be higher. Consequently, the ISV and the IUC will increase, because they consider that variable in the calculation of the tax payable.
In order for you to understand how this new emission standard could affect the purchase of your car, we have prepared a practical example.
Alexandre's new car
Alexandre intends to buy a passenger car today. This acquisition is subject to vehicle tax (ISV), which is payable once, when the national registration number is registered. This tax is based on the engine capacity of the vehicle Alexandre will choose, and its CO2 emissions.
After visiting several car stands, Alexandre finally chose his new car. An Automobile Reason 1.2 Diesel.
Then consider the following data:
- Displacement: 1199cm3;
- CO2 emissions: 119 g/km;
- Type of fuel: Diesel:
- New state.
Using the simulator provided by AT, Alexandre would pay ISV in the amount of 3,032.06 euros.
Assuming that Alexandre postpones his purchase to September. With the new calculation system, let's imagine that the calculated value of CO2 emissions is 125 g/km. The amount of tax payable, under these conditions, would be 3,762.58 euros. This means that, by merely changing the method of calculation, the tax at the time of purchase will increase by 730.52 euros.
Afterwards, the IUC (single tax) on Alexandre's car, which is due annually for the ownership of the vehicle, will have exactly the same treatment. The value of this tax is also calculated based on the engine capacity and CO2 emissions. Considering that the new emissions calculation system will indicate a higher volume of them, naturally the annual IUC to be paid by Alexandre will be higher.
