Polestar 2 gets more accessible version with autonomy of up to 540 km

THE Polestar 2 , which we should only see on Portuguese roads in 2022, has just received a new front-wheel drive variant, with a single electric motor — instead of the two engines of the all-wheel drive version — which can offer up to 540 km of autonomy.

In Europe, we will be able to associate this new version of Polestar 2 with two batteries of different capacities that will correspond to two versions: standard range and long range.

The first, standard range, equips a battery with a capacity of 64 kWh that translates into 224 hp and 330 Nm of maximum torque; the second, long range, uses a 78 kWh battery and guarantees 231 hp, while maintaining the same maximum torque as the less powerful version.

As for autonomy, the young Swedish brand — formerly Volvo's sports division — claims between 420 and 440 km (WLTP) for the version of an engine with a 64 kWh battery and between 515 and 540 km (WLTP) for the Single-engine version with larger capacity battery.

Scheduled for arrival in major markets later this year, these new Polestar 2 variants feature — as standard — with LED luminous signature, 19-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, frameless windows, vegan fabric inside, infotainment with 11” screen, 12.3” digital instrument panel, eight-speaker sound system and remote updates (over the air).

With the new versions of Polestar 2 we managed to successfully avoid stripping the lower priced models of their premium character and feel. Even the most affordable Polestar 2, without optional packages, has great visual consistency and a good standard of equipment.

Thomas Ingenlath, Director General of Polestar

As for the version equipped with two electric motors (one per axle), which is already available in some markets, it will continue to be sold and uses a higher capacity battery — 87 kWh — to deliver 408 hp and 660 Nm of maximum torque, while offering an advertised range of between 450 and 480 km (WLTP).
