Volkswagen Tiguan. Sketch anticipates renewal. Tiguan R on the way

With more than six million units sold since the launch of the first generation — 910 926 in 2019 alone, making it the German brand's best-selling model and dethroning the Golf — the Volkswagen Tiguan is an authentic best seller of the German brand.

However, to ensure that its SUV remains at the top of consumer preferences in a very competitive segment, Volkswagen is preparing to offer the Tiguan a restyling.

Scheduled for arrival in 2021, the revamped Volkswagen Tiguan has now been previewed in a teaser unveiled by Hendrick Muth, the brand's director of product planning, during a presentation.

What will change?

For now, information about the renewed Volkswagen Tiguan is still scarce.

Aesthetically, and judging by the teaser and Muth's statements, the Tiguan will get an all-new front section, redesigned bumpers and standard front and rear LED headlamps.

As for the interior, although there is no teaser, Hendrick Muth said that it will be revised and will receive the same technological offer that we already find in the new Golf and Passat, including the infotainment system they use.

Also in the range of novelties are the plug-in hybrid variant, the Evo versions of the TSI and TDI engines already used in the new Golf and a sportier variant with the treatment of the “R” division.

It seems that the Volkswagen Tiguan R finally gives an air of its grace, after having been promised that it would appear in… 2018. And after initial rumors that it could use Audi's five-cylinder in-line, and that they equip cars like the RS 3 and the TT RS — most likely to use a variation on the mechanics of the Volkswagen T-Roc R, perhaps the same one we'll see on the new Golf R.
