New and less polluting engines

Speaking of engines, the most significant innovation is the introduction of a semi-hybrid (mild-hybrid) 48V diesel option, which combines a new four-cylinder 2.0 “R” EcoDynamics+, with an electric motor-generator and a 48V battery, which, observed in the light of the new WLTP cycle, it guarantees a cut in emissions of around 4%.

As for the old 1.7 CRDi, it gives its place to a new 1.6 CRDI block , named U3, which debuted earlier this year at the top of the Optima range, and which Kia describes as the cleanest turbodiesel ever made available by it. And that will be available with two power levels, 115 and 136 hp, in the most powerful variant, combined with an automatic transmission with double clutch and seven speeds, and permanent all-wheel drive.

All engines already comply with the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard, which will necessarily come into force only in September 2019.

New safety equipment also available

Finally, a highlight is the introduction of technologies not previously available on the Kia Sportage, such as the Intelligent Cruise Control with Stop&Go functionality, Tiredness Alert and Driver Distraction, in addition to a 360º camera system. Depending on the versions, the now renewed Sportage can also include the new info-entertainment system with a 7″ touchscreen, or the more evolved 8” version, without a frame.
