Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS anticipates first 100% electric SUV

THE Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept , unveiled at the 2021 Munich Motor Show, anticipates the first electric SUV from the luxury division of Mercedes-Benz.

It is true that this example that we got to know at the Germanic event is still a prototype, but it is already very close to what will be the production model.

Decorated with bi-tone paint, the lower half of which is “covered” in red (Zircon Red) and the upper half in black (Obsidian Black Metallic), it is the imposing front “grill” that stands out the most.

Despite being closed, it has a thin horizontal strip in aluminum — where you can read “Maybach” — that joins the two headlights and with vertical bars that refer us to the other Mercedes-Maybach proposals.

And not even the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star missed the call, assuming a prominent position on the muscled hood of this 100% electric SUV.

imposing exterior

The front follows the same visual identity as the other models in the Mercedes-Benz EQ family, but ends up standing out for the absence of air intakes, which promises to do wonders for the aerodynamics of this SUV.

At the rear, an almost absolute highlight for the very thin luminous signature, reproducing a horizontal band that not only extends along the entire tailgate but also “stretches” towards the C-pillar.

In profile, in addition to the chrome frame around the windows, the rear spoiler that helps to extend the roofline and the Maybach logo on the C-pillar, the closed 24” wheels stand out for aerodynamic optimization.

Inside, several futuristic solutions that seek to reproduce the style that we will find in the production model. But the experience of this cabin begins even outside, as it is not necessary to manually open any door to enter. All doors on the Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS have automatic opening and closing.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS Concept also has, as standard, the MBUX Hyperscreen — which we already know from the Mercedes-Benz EQS — which includes a 12.3” OLED screen for the front passenger, and the system has a camera that it detects which area the passenger is looking at, even decreasing the brightness (to save energy) when it “feels” that it is not being used.

luxury, luxury and more luxury

The imposing center console, with rose gold details, also does not go unnoticed, as well as the four luxurious seats of this electric SUV, which feature a very stylized “housing”, which combines a rose gold surface with sections in glossy white.

But the most prominent places of this Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS are really the rear. These two “Executive” proposals, as Mercedes-Maybach calls them, are separated by a raised console that, in addition to serving as an “arm rest”, also allows for the accommodation of a… vase of flowers and two glasses.

This prototype anticipates the first all-electric model from Mercedes-Maybach, which will be based on the EVA 2.0 platform — specific for electric vehicles — of the German brand.

When arrives?

In addition to anticipating the production Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, which is due to arrive in 2023, this prototype anticipates the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, whose production will start in 2022.

Nothing is known yet about the engines that will animate it, but Mercedes has already confirmed that the autonomy will reach 600 km.
