"Hardcore" CSL versions are back on BMW

Did BMW officials read this Ledger Automobile article about designations of the past? Whether they read it or not, we don't know.

But by coincidence Frank Van Meel, director of BMW M, in an interview with Road & Track, has now come to resurrect one of those "emblems" that made millions of petrolheads dream. We are talking about the CSL designation.

According to him, the CSL designation – which means Coupe Sport Light – will soon return to BMW, replacing the GTS designation.

Like father Like Son? Only the grandson is missing.

This designation will be reserved for the brand's true sports cars. Developed on circuit and for circuits, only with a number plate.

In addition to the traditional aerodynamic elements and designations throughout the body, the CSL versions will come equipped with competition tires (road-approved), adjustable coilovers, interior roll bar and even a fire extinguisher system (competition-derived).

The CSL versions will be placed above the CS versions (also focused on circuit, but less extreme and with four seats) and the M versions (with a more GT character). The first and most likely candidate to receive a CSL version is the BMW M2. – Do you want to see how this model can be? Click here.

There are rumors that the BMW M2 CS will be unveiled as early as January and that even in 2018 the CSL version may be presented, in an even more limited production.
