Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. This is AMG's first 100% electric

Anonim

Mercedes-AMG chose the 2021 Munich Motor Show to present its first 100% electric model, the EQS 53 4MATIC+ . As the name suggests, it is based on the new Mercedes-Benz EQS and is the first of two AMG versions of this electric saloon.

But despite an AMG 63 variant being planned, the numbers of this recently presented EQS 53 4MATIC+ are already truly impressive: 560 kW or 761 hp and 1020 Nm in boost function, a maximum range of 580 km and a sprint of 0 at 100 km/h in 3.4s.

But there we go. First, it is important to mention the image of this EQS 53 4MATIC+, which differs from that of the conventional EQS in that it has a front “grill” with vertical bars, in an allusion to the Panamericana grilles by AMG.

At the rear, we also find a sportier design, which stands out for having a more pronounced air diffuser and a more prominent specific spoiler. In profile, highlight the rims, which can be 21" and 22".

Inside the cabin, and as with the conventional EQS, it is the MBUX Hyperscreen (standard) that steals all the attention, with graphics and functions specific to this AMG variant.

Anyone who wants an even more aggressively contoured cabin can opt for the optional “AMG Night Dark Chrome” pack, which adds carbon fiber finishes to the interior.

Equipped with active steering on the rear axle that rotates up to a maximum of 9º, the EQS 53 4MATIC+ features an air suspension (AMG RIDE CONTROL+) with two pressure-limiting valves, one controlling the extension and the other the compression phase , which allows the set to adapt very quickly to the asphalt conditions.

As for the brake system, the EQS 53 4MATIC+ is available as standard with high-performance composite discs, although the list of options includes a larger ceramic brake system to brake the momentum of this electric sports saloon.

Powerful numbers…

Driving the EQS 53 4MATIC+ are two electric motors, one per axis, specific to AMG, which achieve higher rotation speeds and thus produce more power. In this case they produce a maximum of 484 kW (658 hp) continuous and guarantee full traction (AMG Performance 4MATIC+).

These are impressive numbers, to be sure, but they can be expanded with the “AMG Dynamic Plus” option pack, which adds a “boost” function — in “Race Start” mode — that increases power up to 560 kW (761 hp) and the torque up to 1020 Nm.

With the “AMG Dynamic Plus” pack, the EQS 53 4MATIC+ is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4s (3.8s in the base version) and reach 250 km/h (220 km/h in the series version) full speed.

And autonomy?

As for energy, it is stored in a lithium-ion battery housed between the two axes with 107.8 kWh (the same capacity as the EQS 580 battery), and the maximum load power supported is 200 kW, enough for this EQS 53 4MATIC+ is capable of recovering 300 km of autonomy in just 19 minutes, according to the German brand.

Silent? Think better…

Afraid that their first 100% electric was too quiet, Affalterbach's brand managers equipped this EQS 53 4MATIC+ with the AMG Sound Experience system. It is a system that allows you to configure the sound that is reproduced inside and outside of this electric AMG, which can adopt a sportier sound.

We can choose between three different modes, Balanced, Sport and Powerful, to which we can add the Performance mode, specific to versions with the optional pack “AMG Dynamic Plus”.
