Renault Megane RS. How the "Beast" was born.

Anonim

The hot hatch world is on the boil. Not only Honda impressed with the Civic Type-R , as we witness the arrival of new pretenders to the throne, such as the excellent Hyundai i30 N . But perhaps even the most anticipated of all is the Renault Megane RS — for many years the reference for the most enthusiastic.

The leader's return?

Well, at least it seems to have the right ingredients to get back to the top of the hierarchy. New 1.8 liter turbo engine — the same as the Alpine A110 — but here with even more power. There will be two possible power levels. As a standard it will have 280 hp, but the Trophy version will reach 300 hp. There are also two options for the chassis — Cup and Sport — introducing the 4Control system, or four directional wheels, in this type of application focused on performance and dynamic efficiency.

And, at the request of many families, the Renault Megane RS will have, for the first time in its history, two transmission options : manual or automatic (double-clutch gearbox), both with six speeds. There seems to be a Megane RS for all tastes, or almost. We won't have two bodies to choose from — there will only be one with five doors.

Of course, the Nürburgring

And of course, we can't talk about fast and furious hot hatches, not to mention the most famous German circuit of all, the Nürburgring. The Honda Civic Type-R is the current record holder for the fastest front wheel drive in a lap of “green hell” with a time of 7:43.8 . Expectations are high for the new Megane RS, which is expected to regain the title of fastest FWD (forward wheel drive).

Waiting

We'll have to wait a few more months for the new Megane RS to answer all these questions — it's expected to arrive in early 2018. Until then we'll leave a film on the development and features of the new Renault Megane RS, which includes many and excellent rear drift. To not lose!
