Based, precisely, on the 488 GTB model, this unique unit and made to measure for what Ferrari itself describes as “one of the manufacturer's most dedicated customers”, presents, from the outset, an exterior aesthetic different from anything that are the current supersports of the Maranello brand.
According to the manufacturer, the model seeks to express “all the beauty and innovation inherent in any Ferrari on the road”, with inspiration also coming from the iconic F40 — also equipped with a twin-turbo V8, just like the 488. it is even felt in the bright red of the three-layer exterior paint.
In terms of design, the horizontal front optics are unusual — reminiscent of the FXX K's thin LEDs — designed especially for this SP38. Which also stands out for the placement of fine lights for changing the direction, integrated in the front bumper.
The F40 inspiration is visible, above all, at the rear — the engine's “lid” becomes part of the bodywork and notice the rear wing and the way its supports “are born” from the side body section. It is the height of the wing that is considerably less than that of the F40, but the principle is the same.
There is no longer a rear window, with the engine cover incorporating the necessary and stylish horizontal openings in order to let out the heat emanating from the twin-turbo V8. And finally, just like on the F40, we have dual circular rear optics, complemented by two generous exhaust outlets — it lacked to bring them together and add a third center outlet for an even clearer evocation of the F40.
Although there are no known photos, it is predictable that the interior was also designed, in a unique way, to the owner's taste.
Engine untouched… or evolved?
As for the engine, Ferrari also did not disclose any information, which leads to believe that this Ferrari SP38 has the same V8 3.9 l twin-turbo, with 670 hp of power, that equips the 488 GTB. Although it is not to be ruled out the possibility of this unique unit already having the most evolved version of the same block and that equips the Pista variant — which announces 720 hp of power.
The Ferrari SP38 will be shown, for the first time, in public, during this year's edition of Concordo d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. Event scheduled for the next weekend of May 26th and 27th.
