Toyota Hilux finally passes the "moose test"

The Swedish publication Teknikens Varld traveled to Spain to test the Toyota Hilux's behavior again, this time on a positive note.

About six months ago, the current generation of Toyota Hilux started talking about the automobile world and not for the best reasons. As it had already happened in 2007 with the previous generation, the pick-up was not able to successfully perform one of the most important active safety tests: the moose test, or in Portuguese, the “moose test”. Remember the test here.

The “moose test”, conducted by Teknikens Varld, consists of an evasive maneuver in order to monitor the behavior of the vehicle when avoiding an obstacle.

TESTED: We've already driven the 8th generation Toyota Hilux

Faced with the negative note, the response from the brand did not wait and Toyota quickly showed willingness to rectify the problems found at Hilux. To investigate the results of changes to the Japanese brand to improve the dynamic behavior of the Japanese pick-up, Teknikens Varld traveled to IDIADA's testing facilities in Barcelona and carried out a new test:

Regarding the tests carried out in October, the difference is notorious. If before, at 60 km/h, the test almost ended in a rollover, in the most recent tests, it surpassed the test at 67 km/h.

According to Teknikens Varld, Toyota has focused its efforts on reprogramming the electronic stability control system and increasing front tire pressure when the vehicle is fully loaded (as is the case with the “moose test”).

The Swedish publication guarantees that, if confirmed, only the double cabin version sold in European markets will have to undergo an update.
