Challenger SRT Demon has a gasoline mode with over 100 octane. As well?

And the long preview of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon continues… The muscle car presentation is already on April 11th.

It's been through short videos – like the one you can see below – that Dodge has been previewing its new Challenger SRT Demon. Little by little, the American brand has also revealed some of the new features present in the sports car, from the tires to the air conditioning system that will be used to cool the engine. But the news does not stop there.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be the first production car capable of working not only on 91-octane gasoline (corresponds to our 95) but also with 100-octane competition gasoline.

NOT TO BE MISSED: My car is more efficient with gasoline 98: truth or myth?

The secret is in the ECU, specially calibrated to receive high-octane gasoline, in the injectors and in the double fuel pump. This system will allow you to take advantage of gasoline with octane ratings above 100, by simply pressing the HO (High Octane) button on the center console.

Does higher octane make a difference in performance?

As explained in detail in this article, octane represents the detonation resistance capacity of fuels used in Otto cycle engines. Unlike atmospheric engines, which can come with high compression ratios, justifying the use of higher octane gasoline, supercharged engines tend to have lower compression ratios. However, they are huge fans of high octane gasoline.

The reason for this is due to the fact that supercharged engines compress the air before it enters the combustion chamber. Which causes the pressure and temperature inside the combustion chamber to rise a lot. Therefore, it is necessary to use gasoline that can withstand the compression phase for a longer time, that is, that does not detonate before its time. The result is an increase in yield and, of course, performance.

In the case of Challenger SRT Demon, the brand guarantees that drag pilots will feel the difference. Also according to Dodge, the eventual mixture of different octane gasolines does not have any negative consequences on the engine. However, if this happens and the octane number is too low, the high octane mode will not be activated.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be presented on April 11, at the New York Motor Show.
